
Vision for Discipleship Academy
"To prepare and inspire newer Americans and people born in the USA to follow Jesus in their personal lives and to become leaders in Christian communities who will minister to ALL people."
Purpose and Goal
- To recruit, train, and equip disciples for discipling;
- To be a "fishing pond" for identifying talented and suitable individuals for authorized ministries;
- To expand church membership;
- To equip individuals to discern their call to become missionaries to the community here;
- To equip and discern people to be a missionary to their home country;
- To direct individual involement with mission work and missionaries;
- To provide time for spiritual growth
The Academy
- A place to experience the beauty and intricacies of the unity of the Global Christian community through biblical truths and Christian faith as shared in their real spirit.
- A flexible three-year curriculum designed by a task force to include Bible teachings, church history, areas of ministry that will allow participants to attend units of course and includes a weekend retreat.
- Meets every other Saturday - September through April, 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon at Central Lutheran, 333 South 12th Street, downtown Minneapolis across from the Convention Center.
- The Discipleship Academy has two units, the first unit covers September 13, 2008 - December 20, 2008 and the second unit January 10, 2008 - April 4, 2009. There is a retreat at the Benedictine Center April 17-19, 2009.
- The first unit will handle Discerning the call of God and Preaching Jonah, Amos and Mark are the subject books.
- Lay and ordained theologians and spiritual leaders of the church share their faith and wisdom.
Registration fee: $25 for each unit or $50 for entire year, scholarships available.
Outcome
- 20 to 25 people per year will graduate as leaders and disciple makers with a goal to become an outreach worker
- Preparing outreach workers for congregations
- Participants will be supported and mentored by a selected member or members of an existing congregation
- Mentor and student will develop a team partnership to bridge connections and involvement between congregation and community
- Understanding of the mission opportunities around our congregations as our neighborhoods constantly change
